Born in 1989 at Meadowcrest Hospital in the Westbank of New Orleans, Louisiana. I grew up in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, where I attended grade school.
Since I was a toddler, I had a passion for baseball. I was always learning and playing baseball. As I got older I would enjoy sitting with my father in the living room, watching college or Major League Baseball games.
I played little league baseball between Plantation Athletic Club (PAC) in New Orleans and Plaquemines Parish Recreation Department. I was fortunate to play in all star teams with PAC and Belle Chasse every year until 14 years old, including a few elite travel teams. In middle school, I played baseball for the
Belle Chasse Middle School team, and subsequently played Varsity Baseball for Belle Chasse High School. I lettered three years, and was awarded district and state-wide honors my junior and senior year.
I began my college baseball career at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette, Alabama, where I lettered my freshman year. My sophomore year I transferred to Louisiana State University in Alexandria, Louisiana, and lettered all three years.
During my baseball career, all the way from my humble beginnings in little league, travel teams to collegiate
baseball, I have been fortunate to play at a high level and play against elite competition. Throughout that time, I have always been studious of the game, and I have applied what I learned from the game in both my athletic and personal life.
During my junior year in the middle of a game, I felt something funny in my elbow, like a pop during one of my outings. I was immediately taken out the game. After X-Rays and a MRI, I was diagnosed with a ruptured UCL. The University’s affiliated hospital/athletic/orthopedic facility suggested I have “Tommy John” re-constructive surgery in hopes to extend my career. Because at the time I was regarded as a "potential prospect", I was recommended for a consultation session with the “World Famous” Dr James Andrews; yes Dr. James Andrews, the same orthopedic surgeon who performed Saints Quarterback Drew Brees’ re-constructive shoulder surgery after being injured in a football game and later that same season released by the San Diego Chargers, subsequently signing with the New Orleans Saints-the rest is history. During my initial consultation with Dr. Andrews, and after explaining the process that would take place before and after surgery, Dr. Andrews made me pledge to him that I would follow his strict, time-consuming, and methodical re-habilitation processes to ensure I would fully recover from my surgery, to which I totally agreed. Dr. Andrews performed a successful surgery, subsequently requiring a long year of rehabilitation and re-conditioning, forcing me to take a “medical red-shirt” on my senior year. The process was long, meticulous, and at time pain-staking. If you care to see my right-arm elbow, you’ll see I have the scars to prove it!
I was born in 1987 in Lafayette, Louisiana. I started playing baseball when I was just four years old, and remember when I was a young kid I was always outside playing baseball; whether it was with my brothers, my Mom and Dad, or even by myself. I began playing “organized” baseball when I was five years old, playing T-Ball in St. Amant, Louisiana; then moved to Belle Chasse and played at Lakeview Playground in New Orleans. During my middle-school years, I played baseball for Belle Chasse Middle School, where I batted 3rd in the lineup, pitched, and played shortstop when not pitching. During my High School years, I played Varsity Football and Baseball, beginning my “prep career” at Belle Chasse High School, where I played Quarterback for the Varsity team, while playing third base, shortstop, and pitcher for the Varsity Baseball team. Due to Hurricane Katrina, my family relocated to Alexandria, Louisiana, where I played my Senior year at Alexandria Senior High School (ASH), and was selected to the Louisiana All State Team, while hitting 3rd in the lineup and playing third base and pitcher. I also played Quarterback for the Varity football team at ASH. I started my Collegiate career at Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas, were I pitched and played third base, batting "cleanup" in the lineup. While at Hutchinson CC, I was selected to the “All-Jayhawk” and “Hutchinson All-Decade” teams. I completed my College career at Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana. From my modest beginnings playing T-Ball in St. Amant, to Collegiate baseball, I learned many things, including humility, respect and hard work. My favorite things about baseball were the teamwork it takes to be great, building camaraderie, and being a well-oiled machine, making the game that much more fun when you win!
